Scemtovici & Benowitz Gallery and the Art Movements Foundation are joining forces to promote sustainability in the art sector through the inaugural edition of the Painting Prize — Emerging Me: Breaking the Ice.
Through this Prize dedicated to professional creators, we aim to reposition contemporary drawing at the forefront of the visual arts — in line with the discipline’s proven potential on the global art market.
our expectations
The call for applications is open to artists aged between 22 and 29 years old (as of the date of the competition: April 27, 2025), who place a strong emphasis on painting, have completed art studies (bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral level), and reside either in Romania or in the diaspora. Young artists of other nationalities are also welcome to apply.

Between May 17 and June 14, 2025, a selection of 35 finalist paintings will be showcased in the group exhibition Emerging Me: Breaking the Ice at Scemtovici & Benowitz Gallery in Bucharest. This setting offers a valuable opportunity to connect with key figures in the art community — people who share your vision and passions. The platform provides fertile ground for your work to come into the spotlight, allowing you to step confidently toward public recognition.
The top three works with the highest scores following the jury evaluation will be awarded. The Collector’s Prize is a subjective selection made by the partnering collector in the emerging painting competition organized by the Art Movements Foundation.

CONTEMPORARY DRAWING IN ROMANIA, curated by Raluca Ilaria Demetrescu, invites you to take a journey into the world of Romanian graphic creation.
Certainly incomplete due to the physical space limitations, the selection of drawings considered, alongside artistic excellence, a wide diversity of techniques and trends present in contemporary creation.
