Context
Ink
The minimal title refers to ink, the substance by which mental images are fixed on paper. The exhibition talks about seriality and sequentiality. Each work is a cell in an organism, closely related to the others, forming a coherent and dynamic whole. Importance is not only given to the individual work, but also to its position in the series, depending on the other works in the series.
The creative process, in turn, is central to Dan Basu. Choosing the medium, the tools and the technique in which they work are only the first stages of a complex and intense ritual. While drawing, the artist invests passion and attention in every detail, from texture and line to colors. The completion of a work is a moment of transcendence, in which the «pure and anarchist» thought turns into a solemn gesture of respect and admiration towards the created object, from framing to its display on the wall.
The «creative engine» and the strongest desire is, for the artist - both in works and in speech - to give up explanations and search for form and gradients. This is why, in most of his works, the form is the same. Through the exhibition INK, Dan Basu prompts us to explore the connection between art and the creative process, to reflect on the importance of the desire to create and the impact that art has on us as viewers.
