Ad infinitum
"Descriptions of real or fantastical animals, medieval bestiaries gathered entire collections of symbolic images and fables within their pages. The medieval man's imagination was long populated with such creatures, which borrowed human traits and often acquired magical virtues. Drawing from this source of inspiration, Andrea Nagy retraces the path in reverse, in a complex process of introspection and self-discovery. At the border between memory and imagination, the world of ideas that the artist evokes is formed from structures that are both delicate and strong. Her strength lies in the very vulnerability of her artistic self. Complex compositions, in charcoal or vibrant colors, where the figurative and abstract perpetually compete, her drawings coagulate from layers and blurrings, with palimpsest-like reflections. The state of wakefulness, in which the artist plunges into the creative process, generates dream memories, or, as the case may be, spins fragile threads from the real universe of her childhood, filled with legends, stories, and phantasms. The message clarifies over time, landscapes untouched by human eyes become characters, gradually weaving her rich dream universe.
A sum of images and states, things that do not stand still but continuously transform, evoke multisensory memory, sedimented over time, in overlapping layers, slowly peeled away by the artist. In the absence of a well-fixed center of interest, the eager eye seeks recognizable fragments, scattered among the threads of a filigree drawing, in which calm and agitation constantly vie for supremacy.
The horizontal registers, cinematographically unfolded, with intrinsic narrative content, underline the imaginative ingenuity and value both the confidence of execution and the pronounced sense of composition. In the landscapes without beginning and end, signed by Andrea Nagy, time and space are abrogated, just as our dreams and subconscious are non-linear. The modes of expression are multiple, never the same, in an unquenchable thirst for movement and change. The characters are projected into a vast context, into a universe of limitless existence, full of mystery and unpredictability, gradually revealed, slowly. For beyond the inevitable agitation in which we are captive, Ad infinitum is a plea for slowing down our external rhythm and connecting to the inner rhythm of an artist who has seen ideas."
